The Modifry Dash Bracket is made of non-magnetic stainless steel.  Why stainless?  Because I needed the bracket to be as thin as possible to slide behind the dash bezel.  Stainless is stiffer than ordinary steel, allowing a thinner gauge material to be used. Thicker steel may be a little more resistant to bending but in tests it left too large a gap between the bezel and dash.

But, since the bracket is non-magnetic that means you have to do a little "modifrying" if you want to use one of those inexpensive magnetic cell phone holders - you know, the type where you glue a metal disc to your phone and stick a magnet to the bracket, then "hang" your phone on the magnet.

I have 2 suggestions if you want to use this type of holder.  You can either mount your cell phone magnet to the bracket using double-sided foam tape or for an easily removable solution use a "backer magnet".  By putting a second magnet behind the bracket you can stick your "phone magnet" on the front and they will hold each other firmly to the bracket.  It just so happens I have a bunch of very strong NIB rare earth magnets that are perfect as backup magnets, and are probably stronger than your cell phone magnet, providing more "Phone grip power" than one magnet alone.  Available on my accessories page
