Wired DCI Compatibility Information

AFTER reading the below instructions, click here   Link to Crutchfield's site

1 - The Crutchfield link above will give you a list of Alpine, Clarion, JVC, Kenwood, Sony, and Pioneer head units that work with the Wired DCI.  The link does a search for head units that are "steering wheel remote" compatible, which is the feature that allows the Wired DCI to control the head unit.

2 - Remember to click this icon on the Crutchfield web site and select your car to only show head units that fit The "Outfit My Car" feature uses cookies so it  will only work if you have cookies enabled.

3 - If you can't find the head unit you want using the above link, try this one  Head units that work with the IR DCI

4 - If you have an old head unit that is not listed at Crutchfield, check the installation manual to see if it is described as compatible with a "steering wheel interface" or "OEM controls adapter".  If it is, then it will work with the Wired DCI as long as it's one of the brands we support (Alpine, Clarion, JVC, Kenwood, Sony, Pioneer)

The below information is still valid, just incomplete and out of date.

Alpine - This is not a complete list so if you don't see your head unit listed here you'll have to do some research.  Generally, if your Alpine has a 3.5mm jack on the rear panel that is identified as "steering wheel remote control" or "wired remote control" then it will work with the Alpine Wired DCI.  Be aware that some head units have a 3.5mm jack for use as an "Aux Input" and that is not the same thing.  Also, some head units may have a "remote control" wire that is used for controlling other Alpine accessories and is not for remote control of the head unit.

CDA-9851, CDA-9853, CDA9855 2005 Check for "Remote Capable" feature

The following Alpine head units have no remote control capability and will not work with the DCI or any other brand of remote control adapter.  This is not an all-inclusive list, just the models I'm aware of at this time.
CDE-101E, CDE-101EM, CDE-102E, CDE-103EBT

Clarion - The Wired DCI works with Clarion models that are equipped with a 3.5mm jack designated for use with OEM steering wheel controls.  I don't have a specific model list at this time but you should be able to confirm compatibility by reading the head unit installation manual to see if that feature is listed.

Kenwood -  Usually only the high-end units in the "Excelon" line of Kenwood head units are compatible with the Kenwood Wired DCI.  These head units have a blue/yellow wire labeled "steering remote control" that connects to the DCI, providing the link for the DCI to control the head unit.  You can check compatibility by reading your owner's manual to verify that wire is provided on you head unit.  Or you can do an on-line search at sites such as Crutchfield, where I suggest you look in the "Hands on Research" section for information on remote control options.  If it indicates "steering wheel remote" capability you're good to go.  If you don't see "steering wheel remote" or the manual doesn't show the blue/yellow wire you can't use the Wired DCI - you'll have to use the IR DCI.  The below list is not complete but if a head unit is listed we have confirmed it is compatible (or not).

JVC - Compatible head units will have a 3.5mm jack labeled "steering remote control" or "OEM remote control".  You can check for the jack by reading your owner's manual or you can do an on-line search at sites such as Crutchfield, where I suggest you look in the "Hands on Research" section for information on remote control options.  If you don't see the jack for "steering wheel remote" or "OEM remote control" you can't use the Wired DCI - you'll have to use the IR DCI.  The below list is not complete but if a head unit is listed we have confirmed it is compatible (or not).

Sony or Pioneer - Below is a list of head units that I know are compatible (or not) with the Sony-Pioneer Wired DCI.  If your HU is not on this list it may still be compatible and the fastest way to determine that is to read your owners manual or search on-line.  Crutchfield is a great source of head unit information, particularly their "Hands on Research" sections.  Look for compatibility with the CD-MR70 wired remote (for Pioneer) or the RM-X4S wired remote (for Sony), which is usually listed in the "Remote Control" features section.

Sometimes the manufacturer's literature won't come right out and list the CD-MR70 or RM-X4S as an optional accessory.  You may have to check the installation/user manual to see if the HU has a 3.5mm jack on the rear panel labeled for "wired remote control".  If it does, the Sony-Pioneer Wired DCI will work.  If not, consider using the IR DCI product after you verify the head unit has either an included or optional hand-held IR remote.

*Crutchfield incorrectly lists the 2700 as not having wired remote capability.  The owners manual however, indicates it does have the jack for the wired remote.
